Active skin care and sun

Active skincare products containing strong acids should not be combined with sun exposure. Acids generally make the skin more or less sensitive to the sun. When the skin is more sensitive, we are more likely to burn in the sun. If you are unlucky enough to burn yourself, the risk of sun damage also increases, which in turn can contribute to pigment changes in the skin.

Remember to always wear sunscreen when outdoors during the summer months. Avoid sitting in the sun for any length of time between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. You'll get a nice, fresh color even if you're in the shade in the middle of the day, but you won't get red, flaky, leathery skin. A fashion tip is to get a pair of gorgeous sunglasses and a stylish sun hat to look fabulous while taking care of your skin!

Which SPF should I have?

The type of SPF you should use is individual and depends, among other things, on your skin type. The color of your skin when exposed to the sun depends on how much of the different pigments you have. There are different types of pigments:

  • Eumelanin - the darker pigment that gives us better protection naturally.
  • Feomelanin the lighter, redder, pigment that does not protect as well.

Your skin melanin type determines the strength of your UV protection, but between SPF 30 and 50 is always recommended for outdoor use in summer. The higher sunscreens are generally preferable for fair-skinned Scandinavians. Those with darker skin have a little more "built-in" protection from the sun, but should still always supplement with appropriate sun protection.

NOTE! Keep in mind that your sunscreen should include protection against both UVA and UVB rays because UVA leads to premature aging with wrinkles and sagging skin, while UVB leads to pigmentation spots.

How to use Jabushe active products this summer

Jabushe active skincare products contain ingredients that reduce the signs of aging and sun damage, making them ideal for use when your skin is under extra stress this time of year. However, keep this in mind when using your Jabushe products this summer:

  • If you still work and spend most of your time indoors, you should add UV protection to your Jabushe Original or Soft Cream during the day. Sunscreen should be applied after you put on your face cream. You can also use a foundation with SPF 20 or more. In the evening, apply your Jabushe products as usual.
  • If you vacation in Sweden or spend a lot of time outdoors in general - on the beach, in your garden, on the golf course or out sailing - you should always wear at least SPF 30 over your Jabushe Original/Soft Cream. Combine it with a hat or cap. In the evening, use your Jabushe products as usual.
  • If you're vacationing abroad, in a climate with higher temperatures and humidity, you'll sweat more. You can skip Jabushe products during the day and just use a sunscreen with SPF 50. In this type of climate with strong sun, it is extra important to complement with a hat or a cap. Apply your Jabushe products in the evening.

Take care and sunbathe in moderation!
