Winter skin isn't known for its glow, and it's easy to forget that not so long ago it was supple, soft and shimmering. But listen up - there are ways to glow even in winter.
1. take it easy on the long showers.
A boring tip, we know. Especially when the wind is whistling outside the window and your cheeks are frostbitten. But hot, long showers contribute to tired, dry and dull skin. This is because the skin's natural oils are washed away. Shower for a maximum of five minutes, and wash your face with a moisturizing cleanser. Shorter showers are not only kind to yourself - but also to the environment.
2. The skin needs antioxidants. Try lipoic acid.
Antioxidants protect the skin from external attacks. And the better the antioxidant you use, the deeper it goes into the skin. Vitamin C is great - but lipoic acid is 400% more powerful. It's an antioxidant that reaches all the way down to the dermis (unlike vitamin C, which only coats the skin). It has an anti-inflammatory effect, evens out skin tone and reduces enlarged pores and rough skin texture.
3. exfoliate.
You've probably heard this tip before in the context of glow, but that's because it's so true. The key to glowing skin is to exfoliate your skin at regular intervals. This removes old, dead skin cells that make your skin gray and dull. Applying an exfoliating mask once or thrice a week also gives your skin a chance to absorb other products better. Your face cream, mask and serum will all work better - and that in itself increases the likelihood of a beautiful glow.
4. moisturize.
Without moisturized skin - no glow. Skin that is dry, flaky and irritated will also look like that. That's why it's important to apply a moisturizing cream to your face a couple of times a day, preferably one that provides both moisture and oil. In the evening before bedtime, you can apply an extra thick layer of face cream, so that the skin is properly moisturized during the night.
5. Look out for ceramides.
During winter, it's a good idea to choose a cream that is barrier-strengthening and protective. Look for ceramides as an ingredient, as it has a protective and strengthening effect. It also makes the skin softer, more supple and evens out the skin tone.
